Poochyena | Dark-Type | Level 5 | Female | Quick Feet Tackle | HowlDespite being dark-type, Snivy's attack seemed to do more damage to the fleeing pokemon. Poochyena skidded backwards some, shaking off the dirt that had clung to her fur when she came to a stop. Seeing that she wasn't going to be able to escape, the wild pokemon charged forward with a Tackle. Maybe if she retaliated she could shake the Snivy off of her. And... the bait was taken when Snivy's attack produced the desired result. Poochyena had decided to retaliate, promptly sending a swift tackle her way.
Fortunately enough, Snivy's landing had been slightly flawed, making her side-step unintentionally as her feet connected with the ground. While she didn't manage to dodge the dark-furred pup's attack, she was not subjected to the full force of the tackle either. The momentum sent Snivy spinning.
"Snivy~!" Xavier called out, worried that his partner might have hurt herself during her misstep. Quickly scanning the grass pokemon for any signs of limping, he was relieved to find that there were none. However, the battle was far from over although Snivy was showing signs of wear. Xavier wasn't too surprised, considering that Snivy was entering this battle after a heated exchange with the Zigzagoon. If the fight got too far out of hand, Xavier resolved that he would pull his partner out of it. There would be other opportunities to capture pokemon, although he would be greatly troubled should his one and only pokemon be rendered unconscious.
But the look in Snivy's eyes told him that his partner would not appreciate being returned to her pokeball just yet. Something was different about her compared with the previous battle.
And he had guessed rightly so, for the little grass pokemon was actually quite beside herself with fury, her anger having been fanned by the embarrassment of her last error. "Sniv~!" she called out, probably sounding a little harsher than she had intended.
The urgency in her tone was caught immediately by the trainer. Briefly shocked by the roughness of his pokemon's call - something he hadn't heard in the few days that he had been with her - the young trainer hesitated just before calling out the next attack. "Twister~!" he yelled. Xavier had deemed the move to be the most suitable one under these conditions. It didn't require Snivy to move around too much. So, it would give his partner a little bit of time to recover her breath.
As the vortex of wind swirled around the petite grass pokemon, Xavier crossed his fingers in hopes that the attack would be successful.

Snivy stood firm as she released her whirling vortex towards the tiny dog. A satisfied grin graced her otherwise unchanged features as the twister struck home. But as the winds cleared, she saw the pup running towards her in what was unmistakably another tackle attack. Lowering her stance in a more defensive posture, she awaited her trainer's next call. Even though her pride was still deeply stung, she could not help but marvel at the dark-pokemon's determination. Hadn't her initial glare at the pup effected her at all? This opponent was certainly different from the normal-type that she had fought earlier.
The seconds ticked passed as she watched the puppy draw closer and closer, gaining in speed and momentum with each passing stride. Her tiny green legs tensed, ready to spring an attack on her foe or flee at a moment's notice, or rather, as soon as her trainer articulated his next command. Silently, Snivy hoped that it would not be the later as it would feel rather embarrassing to be running away from the female puppy.
Xavier, meanwhile, had lowered the arm he had held up instinctively raised to protect himself from the effects of Snivy's twister. With the air once again quiet, his white tresses fell evenly upon his forehead. His eyes widened slightly when he saw the wild pokemon already nearing his partner with its tackle. Just how much energy did this pokemon have anyway?!
In his shock, the rookie (being the rookie that he was) blurted out the first attack that came to mind. "Snivy, magical leaf!"
BAM!
Too late. In his moment of hesitance, the two pokemon connected, with Snivy taking in the full force of the poochyena's tackle... or at least, that was what he had supposed. It was kinda hard to say, because right now, Snivy was clinging to the front the still advancing pooch!
"Snivy!" he called out. His partner opened her eyes and blinked, apparently just as surprised as her trainer was. "Snivy, can you still continue?" Xavier asked, looking worried.
"Snieee~eee~v~!" shouted back, still clinging on for dear life.
"Ah~ ah~ magical leaf, quick!" the boy stammered.
As Snivy held tighter still to the puppy's muzzle and chest, glowing leaves burst into the scene around the grass pokemon.

Poochyena | Dark-Type | Level 5 | Female | Quick Feet Tackle | HowlStruggling, the dark-type tried to pry herself from Snivy's grip. She shook her head and pulled, but could not get the grass snake to let go. Panic flashed through Poochyena's eyes as she saw the swirl of leaves. They cut into her skin, the barrage too much for her to take now. Her body slumped a bit, the pokemon weakened now. Poochyena was hit by MAGICAL LEAF Poochyena is Weakened! (HP left is no exact number here, it's more based on rp and logic. A low level pokemon fighting two pokemon of equal or higher level is going to be a lot more worn out than a pokemon that hasn't touched battle.)

In the comfort of his own darkness
The rookie's body tensed when he noticed the shift in his quarry's gait. The pup's torso as slouched, its movements slower than before. There was no doubt that his partner had managed to wear it down some.
A wave of relief swept over the young trainer. About time... he thought to himself. He had been worried because had the battle prolonged any further, it would be his Snivy who would be at a disadvantage. Momentarily allowing his partner to fend for herself a little while longer, Xavier swung his pack around and retrieved a red and white orb from one of its pockets.
He swung the bag back to its original position, and with the press of a button, the pokeball enlarged with a whirl. His hand tightening slightly around the orb, he called out to his Snivy. "Snivy, glare and then get off~!" A small distraction would minimize the chances of Snivy getting attacked and/ or injured as she dismounted.
The grass pokemon's eyes shot open as she looked straight onto the puppy's orbs. After completing the attack, the female grass pokemon pushed off, allowing herself to tumble backwards."Sniv~," she uttered (her version of "Oof~") when she finally came to rest against a small boulder protruding from the side of the path.
Xavier, meanwhile, had not wasted any time at all. As his partner disentangled herself from the dark-type, the pokeball left his hand. Saling through the air, the capsule headed straight for the weakened pokemon. He mentally crossed his fingers in hopes that Snivy's efforts had not been in vain.

In the comfort of his own darkness
A significant amount of joy and pride bubbled up within the teenager's heart. Staring at the pokeball sitting still on the ground, he could scarely believe it; he had just made his first capture! Shifting his bag into a more comfortable position, he strode towards his prize. Briefly stopping as he scooped the red-and white orb into his hand, Xavier continued towards his partner, to whom he owe two victories today.
The grass pokemon rubbed her head. It was still throbbing lightly where she had hit the boulder. "Sniv~?" she yelped in surprise, suddenly noticing a familiar looking shoe next to her. She traced her eyes upwards to find her trainer stooped over her, grinning and violet eyes dancing in delight.
He offered her a hand, which she gladly accepted. "Well done, Snivy." he commented in earnest. She watched as her trainer withdrew his pokedex and scanned the pokeball. After the machine gave its monotonous definition of the Poochyena, it was quickly replaced inside Xavier's pocket. Standing up, Xavier threw the pokeball into the air, and with a great burst of light, the new addition to his team appeared, staggering for a bit before plopping down on the ground, obviously still exhausted from the fight.
The rookie held out his hand and gently ruffled the pup's fur. "You've fought well as well, Poochyena. Don't worry, I'll have you and Snivy at a Pokemon Center before the day's end."
With a curt nod, he returned both pokemon to their balls and replaced the capsules into separate compartments. With both pokemon weakened, it was no longer wise to linger out here in the wilderness. Making haste, the boy quickly made his way towards Straiton City.
