A Lucky Day? [MOD]

He was uncertain whether he had been the fortunate recipient of a string of beneficial coincidences or simply just lucky altogether. Today had been a glorious day so far and it bothered him to think he almost did not make it to Undella Town. After hearing the rumors about the money tree back in Nimbasa City he had initially written it off as a bad joke, but luckily for him, he had a thrill for adventure that happened to gravitate him to the east anyway. "And now I'm £56 richer." Sure it wasn't much, but it was better than nothing. Being a vagabond, as most trainers were, getting your paws on free money or supplies was a blessing either way you looked at it.

Though the coming up on a descent some of money was good, it was not as great as his come up at the Bulba Bulbasaur game had inadvertently ran into after leaving from the money tree contest. He remebered watching those that were before him, picking shiny Venasaurs and Bulbasaurs and coming up empty. So he had gone out on a leap of faith, choosing the Ivysaur as an attempt to go against the grain. To his astonishment, it turned out that his choice had been the correct one, hence the newest member of his team, Shelmet, was now clasped tightly in his palm. Figuring how lucky his day had been so far, maybe he could milk the rest of this run of luck by converting his attempts from games to training.

If this idea went as he planned it in his head, he would either be able to defeat some pokemon and make his own stronger or perhaps even catch one to make his six man team complete. "So this is route 15, eh." He said aloud to himself as he came to a stop, the soles of his black high top shoes skidding atop the rocky gravel. It was a convenient place for him to explore as it was close by his previous destination of Undella Town. "Hopefully my lucky day hasn't come to an end just yet." He added in thought as he took a breath before proceeding down the cliff side route, continuing on with caution to prevent the chance of slipping off the downward slope.

A pokemon was wandering about route 15, dragging a club of bone along behind her. She seemed dejected, maybe she was lonely or maybe she was lost. Either way, the rather young pokemon seemed to be barely paying attention to her surroundings as she moped about.

Wild Cubone Appeared!

There were a few instances when he could have sworn by everything he knew to be true that he was about to fall off the side of the cliff. Lucky for him though, the route had a set of rusty old hand railings he was able to hold on to. Even so, the young trainer found that his sporty high top black tennis shoes were still no match for the steep descent the route was challenging him with. An elevated heart rate and two close calls with death later, he had finally managed to reach level ground by mostly sliding down the rest of the way, his soles being worn away by the small rocks on the ground.

It wasn't until he stopped and took a deep breath after conquering the death defyingly steep decline that he attempted to brush off the dirt from his pants. His efforts however only proved to be in vain as his hands were covered in dirt from the filthy railings. Of course, he did not realize this until after he had spread them across his black jeans. Jutting his head up to roll his eyes and perhaps to give route 15 a verbal piece of his mind, his icy blue irises fell upon an alarming sight. There was a pokemon headed his way, by the looks of things it had not seen him yet, but judging from its bone mask and bone club it seemed like it was out looking for something to bludgeon. "Cubone, known as the lonely pokémon, a small, brown dinosaur-like ground pokémon that constantly wears it's mother's skull like a helmet." The description the monotone voice of his pokedex had given him sent chills down his spine.

"It wears its mothers skull for a helmet!? This thing must be vicious!" He cried out in thought as he scrambled with frightened urgency to pry an occupied pokeball from his belt holster. Upon retrieval, he spiked the red/white sphere in front of him with authority, really not even knowing which of his pokemon he was summoning because he was so frantic. As the released white energy materialized, it took the form of his Mantyke, hovering curiously above the rocky terrain. "Uh, quick, Mantyke use bubble!" He exclaimed in impulse as Mantyke looked back at him as he pointed his shaky index finger at her target. Turning around and catching a visual of her target, Mantyke heeded her trainers command and confidently shot a bubble attack towards the approaching Cubone.

The bubbles came at Cubone unexpectedly. She stumbled backwards, clutching onto the skull on her head to make sure it wouldn't fall off. Glancing around, her eyes finally rested on the Mantyke who had attacked her. She just stared for a moment, wondering why she was being attacked all of a sudden. Hesitant, she let out a small Growl in hopes that it would frighten the water-type away. She didn't want to fight.

He had to admit that landing the first attack gave him a new found sense of security. But still, he was very much afraid of this parent killing pokemon, although now to a lesser extent. He was confident now that Mantyke could take care of it for sure, seeing as how the bubble attack caused the Cubone to waver so greatly. "What did it say about water again?" He had remembered something the pokedex had flashed about the Cubone in regard to water, ice and grass type attacks. Quickly fishing out the red hand held digital encyclopedia, he flipped it open to review its previously ran analysis.

"Ah, so its weak to water, ice and grass type attacks. That's a relief." He added in thought, partly based on the fact they had the advantage and partly based on the fact that he had randomly chose the right pokemon to fight against it. Mantyke began to back up with a chilling air of uncertainty as the Cubone growled with a sense of warning. "..-Tyke!" For whatever reason, Mantyke seemed now to be a bit discouraged, he just hoped that would not hinder her performance moving forward. "Mantyke, use supersonic and follow up with another bubble attack!"

The sound coming from the Mantyke rang through Cubone's head, clouding her thoughts and giving her a slight headache. Preparing an attacking with her club, she tripped over her own feet and hit herself in the head. She stood up shakily, bringing herself right into the path of the water-type attack. The ground-type stumbled backwards again, nearly falling down in her confused state.

"So that's what supersonic does?" He had been training with Mantyke for quite some time, but most notably, she had gained a lot of strength from her battle with Deerling. Even though that round of action against Nix was abruptly cut off, Mantyke had still earned a great deal of experience, that being her first battle and all. He had stumbled across her supersonic ability thanks to his pokedex's analysis, he was uncertain what exactly it did, but he had tried it anyway.

From the sound of the move it seemed like it would be some type of forceful sound wave that would perhaps knock her enemies back. But to his discovery, it was nothing more than a high frequency shriek that seemed to disorient foes. Not to say that was worse, but a blast of sound was much cooler, aesthetic wise anyway. The dark haired trainer watched in interest as the shriek caused the Cubone to loose its composure, even making it stumble over itself as it tried to attack and then clumsily fall in the way of Mantyke's bubble attack. "Awesome job, lets keep the pressure going, use tackle and then bubble again!"

Still too confused to even think about dodging, the Cubone was hit by the full force of the Mantyke as she slammed her weight into him. Trying to hit the water-type while she was close, the Cubone began to turn to use tail whip, but stumbled over her own feet once again and tripped, falling on her stomach. The sudden jolt helped to clear her head however, and as she stood she was much more steady. Seeing the bubbles coming toward her, she ducked low and ran under them, making her way to the Mantyke. Swinging her the bone in her hand towards her opponent like a club, she hoped the attack would cause some damage, maybe even stun the pokemon for a brief moment.

"Whoa, great job, Mantyke..." It was not because he had ever doubted the sting ray pokemons abilities or discounted its strength in any fashion. But still, he was left rather impressed how effectively it pounced on top of Cubone. Although Mantyke was a tough competitor, she was still rather small, so to see he her take down her opponent as if she were the likes of a Tauros was rather astonishing. He kept his fingers crossed, hoping that Mantykes slamming tackle would be enough to help her finish it off with bubble.

However, the adolescent trainer would soon realize the Cubone's resolve as it recovered aggressively, showing great toughness and persistence. "Look out Mantyke!" He had become keen to the Cubone's evasion about a second or so earlier than his pokemon, but that time disparity seemed to be all the difference. By the time he finished shouting his command, Cubone was already baring down on her underside. "-Tyyykkkeeee!" Mantyke exclaimed as she shouted in pain, catching a clean shot from the Cubone's bone club right in the gut. The poor thing had gotten the wind knocked out of it, being stunned a bit as a result. "Mantyke, shake it off and use supersonic!"

Seeing the screeching supersonic attack coming this time, Cubone clamped her hands over her ears. The attack couldn't pierce through easily, the skull helping to protect her. It seemed that the attack would require better timing. Still covering her ears, the ground-type turned and whipped her tail towards the Mantyke, hoping to surprise her opponent and lower her defenses.

The Cubone got points in his book for its clever defense, covering its ears against the supersonic. Although it was a crude way of nullifying the attack, it was effective none the less, its bone helmet probably aiding it in its efforts. However, in doing so, the Cubone had left itself wide open, with its hands occupied it would not properly be able to defend itself. Before barking any more commands he quickly shot a glance over towards Mantyke, despite that heavy blow she previously took, she seemed to be managing ok. At least, there were no visible signs of physical distress other than her gasps for air which were slowly helping her breathing pattern return to normal.

"Loosing all that wind must have been tough, but there is no time for me to sympathize, we have to press on." Although it may have seemed a little harsh, this was the reality of pokemon battles. Despite how much trainers cared for their pokemon, it was also up to them to push them through adversity in order to bring out the best in them. "Mantyke, swoop under Cubone's attack and use tackle towards its midsection!" Mantyke was able to dodge the Cubone with relative ease given its air superiority as the bone mask pokemon would have to elevate to execute its physical attack.

Not only that, but the attack was a desperate one to say the least. Relegating itself to attacking with its hands glued to the sides of its head, having its elbows and forearms obscuring what little peripheral vision it was allotted from the clunky bone mask. It was almost inconceivable to assume that Cubone could have a chance of landing such a frontal half hearted attempt. As Mantyke would seek to counter and ram its head into the Cubone's chest, its trainer had inserted another vocal command for it to follow. "Afterwards follow up with bubble!" This last second additional command was intended more so for good measure, as he was almost certain Mantyke would succeed in it's counter tackle attack.

The tackle easily hit it's mark, though the Cubone did her best to stand her ground. Seeing an opportunity with her opponent so close, she swung her bone club towards the water-type once again. Of course, she hadn't counted on the bubble attack, which was enough to knock her off balance. Clearly weak now, the ground-type began to sniffle. She hadn't wanted to battle, she had been wandering around looking for others of her kind. The lonely pokemon was open now for either capture or to be finished off.

It was a shame that the origin of Cubone was something that freaked him out, the fact about it wearing its parent skull mostly. Had it not been for this disturbing factoid he may have strongly considered catching the wild pokemon. Despite its odd collection of bones, it was a tough cookie to say the least, very steadfast and very persistent. Those were some of the qualities he looked for in pokemon, building a tough and persistent team was his aim.

However, this time around he would have to pass, but it was not for lack of effort on the Cubone's part. "Even weakened it is still managing to fight." He thought whilst observing it clip the wing of Mantyke with its bone club just after pulling up from its tackle attack. Despite this, Mantyke's bubble went off without a hitch, and now, Cubone was definetly on its last legs. "Alright Mantyke, lets finish this, attack with bubble one last time!" He exclaimed as he jousted his index finger forward, pointing toward Cubone in a fit of action-esque excitement.

As the bubbles hit, the Cubone tried to cover her head in defense of herself. It was of no use, as the water-type attack penetrated through and caused the ground-type to lose consciousness.

There was a soft rumble beneath Alan's feet that quickly grew stronger, until a small silver tip popped out of the ground. It was followed shortly after by the rest of the pokemon, spinning rapidly to free itself from the soil. Landing just behind it's hole, the mole-like pokemon placed it's arms back at it's sides and looked around. His eyes rested on Mantyke, and he let out a loud "Dril!" in greeting, waving at the water-type.

Watching the Cubone fall to the ground from Mantyke's last bubble attack brought about a much more comfortable feeling than he had expected. Although Cubone was a formidable adversary that earned his respect, he was still deathly afraid of it, mostly still because of the bone thing it had going on. While wiping the sweat from his brow with the back of his hand he simultaneously took a deep breath, basking in the reinstatement of his security.

"-Tyke..?" The second before the adolescent trainer had primed her pokeball and readied it for her return, Mantyke had expressed a tone of uncertainty. "Huh, what is it?" He inquired in about as much curiosity as Mantyke's facial expression held. Before he had time to investigate, he felt the immediate ground beneath him rumble and shake. "Somethings coming!" Seconds later a small silver tip protruded from the ground for a brief moment before it came barreling upwards in a spinning fashion.

"Woah!" He had stumbled back upon his arse on the count of this "thing" popping up so close to him. Whatever it was nearly hit him in the head. Flopping out of his pocket, his red pokedex coincidentally flipped itself open and began an analysis on the creature in front of he and Mantyke. "Drilbur , the mole-like ground Pokémon. Known for its white shovel like claws that aid in its movement underground." Quickly retreiving the pokedex, he studied the on screen image for a moment, drawing his icy blue eyes back and forth from the LCD screen to the real thing.

"So your a Drilbur eh, pretty cool." He uttered as he made his way back up to his feet while placing the pokedex back into his right pocket. After spitting to his side he shot a glance at the Drilbur before drawing his eyes up towards Mantyke. "You ready to again Mantyke?" He inquired almost rhetorically. Not based on the fact that she did not have a choice, but more so on him knowing she would not back down from a challenge. "-Tyke!" She exclaimed in a tone of determined readiness as it furrowed its brow whilst swiveling around to face its next opponent. "Alright then, lets start things off, attack with bubble! Then once you find and opening, use supersonic!"
