Welcome to . . .[/font]
The horses stood in the large meadow, the tall grass tickling their legs as they grazed peacefully throughout the day. The lead mare ordered everyone to begin moving for the night so they could find a descent place to rest then to be moved once again by morning to a new feeding ground. They marched when the sun began to die down until they came across a small clearing. Foals were tired and so were the elderly thus the horses decided to crash for the night here in the small clearing.
In the middle of the night, the band stallion and lead mare woke up as they heard some noises coming from the north. The two scurried off a little ways to see what it was. The sound of hoof beats began to get louder along with some whistles and voices of mankind. The horses had never come across humans in these parts and thus felt no danger, just slight worry at the new environment. They didn't know what humans were, what they were doing here and why they were doing here. For the past decade, they never came across humans until this night.
The band stallion stayed while the lead mare went to the herd to comfort them as they all began to worry. They began to question whether they should stay and listen to the leads or not; many had harsh gut instincts that told them to run. The wagons, oxen, horses and humans began to get closer and closer until soon enough, they too saw the band stallion and a herd not far behind them. The humans called the animals to halt as they stared at them. They lit their lamp and had the horses trot forward to near the stallion. The stallion, now becoming territorial, displayed himself as the boss and charged toward them a bit, to show he wasn't afraid. The humans began to talk to one another until another man on horseback came cantering up to the stallion. The stallion reared, giving them a last warning, hoping the intruders would just move on and not have trouble.
Out of nowhere, a human threw his rope around the stallions neck. Now feeling threatened, the stallion began to rear and buck trying to get free but another horseman caught his hind hoof, trapping the stallion. The lead mare called for the herd members to run, run as fast and far as they could because they were not safe here. The herd began to run and soon the chase began.
The humans wanted and needed more horses for their travels down south and figured they could use a few wild horses, especially the young ones since they could train them. Several horseman took off running with dogs, chasing down the horses. They captured a couple mares and a foal and let the rest of the horses go. The wild horses, reluctant to obey, began to rebel and try to fight them until one man pulled out his gun and shot the air. Scared, the horses stopped momentarily and stared at the man with the gun before trying to run away. Dogs at their heels and ropes around their body, the horses soon grew exhausted and gave in. They walked for hours behind the wagon until the reached the deep south.* * * *
The horses haven't seen humans in decades and it was only on rare occasion did the two actually meet . . . until now. Humans are beginning to migrate south to begin creating new towns and homes for themselves and their families. Wild horse herds living within the south are having troubles getting comfortable with the idea that humans are their neighbors. Humans are beginning to go out and capture some wild horses to be tamed and be called their own. Some horses are willing while many are rebellious. They do not want their homes taken from them and they do not want to be tamed. They want to be wild and free. What part are you willing to take in this fuming war between the humans and horses?
