Even as he ascended the stairs of this less-than-pleasant memorial/ building, he wondered just what the heck could have possessed him to come here in the first place. The murmur of chants from people come to pay their respects to their deceased partners wafted through the still air, sending chills down his spine. It reminded him that it might not be too long before others would be chanting prayers for him- not a pleasant thought- and this in turn caused a knot to form in his stomach. He would never admit it out loud, but Xavier was afraid of dying; very afraid. Hence, his discomfort. Footsteps echoed through the hollow chambers as he placed one foot in front of the other, mentally forcing himself to move past the tombstones that lined the corridor. The noise merged with the chanting, forming a somber and foreboding tune that somehow reflected his internal turmoil. He stopped. Lightly touching his forehead with his index and pointer fingers, the youth willed himself to do away with the agonizing thoughts that ripped at his heart. The organ was already failing, so he had been told. And death would come in due time. There was no need to suffer for now; no need to think about these things. He had already decided that when the time came, he would choose a quiet and secluded spot to lay himself to rest. He would find new homes for his pokemon before then; it had always been his intention to die alone. Today, however, he just wanted to ring the bell at the top of the tower. Maybe, just maybe, it would help aid his view towards the topic of death. ” ― Xavier M.
