but tonight you walk on streets of gold |
Cyrus had never really establish if he liked heights or not. Seeing as he was starting to cross what seemed like an eternal bridge almost every day now, though, he figured he should get used to the huge trucks underneath the walking path, and ignore the surprisingly calm sea beneath him. Of course, just because he was mentally reassuring himself didn't exactly mean that his body had caught up. He couldn't help but stare at the water below, eyes fixed on the movement of the waves, the same motion seeming to churn his stomach around. He didn't like large bodies of water, let alone being suspended above them, where he could be pushed off any second by a jackass, or accidentally. Or, by someone who was out to get him. Those type of people seemed to be multiplying everyday.
So he did not like heights. Yes, the shaking in his hands could easily tell him that. He did not like heights, and he did not like water. So why was he on the bridge, again? Oh, that's right. He was trying to get to that damned down which seemed like it was across the world at this point. Too distracted by trying to stay stable (which he inevitably was, the bridge obviously wasn't going anywhere) to notice that there was not a soul to be seen, the blonde took steady steps in the middle of the bridge. "But... What if the middle falls through?" He breathed to himself, breathing in sharply before scuttling to the sides of the walk path, gripping onto the rail for what seemed like dear life. "Somebody could push me off, a wind could blow me away..."
It was finally decided that he would walk in between the center and side of the bridge. Far enough away from the hole that would fall through the middle, and far enough away from being hurled over the rail. If only he had a distraction, he could have at least gained a little composure about the whole thing. It was rather unfortunate that neither Mikros nor Skiouros would be decent distractions, not enough for this. He could try to remember what happened a few nights ago, or maybe it was just last night. The night before? He didn't know anymore, Cyrus didn't bother keeping track of the days. He met strangers (somewhat), and actually saw them again! It was, needless to say, a rather exciting event. He couldn't hold too much hope, though. It was figured that they would soon be filtered through to the next city just like everybody else.
But just maybe, for once, he would go with them?

[atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 450px; background-color: #b7b6c6;]i lie awake because i'm scared And there he stood, looking past the horizon. Looking but unseeing, that was what he was doing. He slumped onto the railings, his arms crossed over one another and supporting his weight on the metal. Of course, the day was as tiring as ever. Running from town to town seemed to be something as required it seemed for this travelling with your pokemon thing. He couldn't understand why he couldn't simply drive from town to town instead of walk. He didn't even think a bicycle was a decent mode of travelling. Oh sure, all those energetic twelve years olds were probably bounding from route to route all happy like.
Shit no, he wasn't old. He would never admit such a thing.
With a sigh a ran a hand through he blonde hair, watching as the waves pushed against one another, the movement looking soothing. He could almost imagine himself on the waves, bobbing up and down, without a care in the world. That, or he would drown all together.
There didn't seem to be that many people wandering on the bridge, and even fewer who, like he, was actually spending some time with the bridge. In fact, the only people who seemed to be enjoying the view like him, was a lovey-dovey couple directly behind him. The pair was giggling and flirting around it seemed, waiting for the sunset or something, he wasn't too sure.
The urge to push them both off the bridge was growing.
Before he could muse further on that thought, he caught sight of vaguely familiar figure in the background. He watched and waited until he could at least be sure that it was indeed the blonde he had met the other night. Yep, the very same blonde that had downright refused to give him his name even. Elijah could only assume that Cyrus was using the bridge to get to the other side of course, though he found it rather amusing that the boy was walking almost exactly in the middle of the path. What was up with that?
"Hey, Sunshine~" He called out, lifting an arm to get the other's attention, before moving the same arm to motion at Cyrus. "You think you own this bridge or something?" He said, grinning as he did. He remained on his spot, looking over interestedly. He only remembered the blonde boy because he recalled that Cyrus had a Dratini, by the name of Miko, with him. That, and he was blonde.

Could there possibly be other signs of life ahead of him? Through the morning fog that seemed to have wrapped the bridge in a light embrace, the boy could have sworn that there were others around. It would have been easier to hear, if those damned trucks below him would all just drive off the edge of the bridge to their doom. He never liked loud cars; it was one of the reasons he stayed in Castelia. Everybody walked. Not even bikes were ridden that often, due to the city's ever pestering circular shape and sharp, randomized turns. Walking wasn't exactly a problem, either. "Unless you're stuck in the middle of the bridge and wanna hide." He finished his own thought out loud with a grumble, bringing his hands up to rub his face in lazily, perhaps get rid of the groggy feeling that the slight fog brought.
The wind began to blow, though, and as the sun slowly started its escalation towards the sky, the humidity seemed to simply tear away. He breathed a small sigh of relief (which didn't last for too long, seeing as he was still above the water), now focusing ahead once more. The people were much more clear now, and though his hands were still shaking, he brought up a returning wave to the 'stranger', who he could not yet properly identify. Putting that aside, he was about to see who the other two on the bridge were, before the suddenly all too familiar voice echoed to him. Cyrus froze for a moment- who else would call him 'Sunshine' than that man from the other night?
He hadn't been expecting to see the stranger again, let alone on Skyarrow bridge, when he was at his 'weakest', per say. He could only stare ahead at Elijah, wondering why the hell the older blonde was on the same bridge at the same time, and why he had asked such a silly question. Forcing himself to move forward (he wouldn't allow himself to turn back now for once person, he was much too stubborn for that), Cyrus managed to get a small, fake smile onto his face. "I told you I didn't like that name," he huffed, a slight pout in action as he closed a little more distance between the two.
While the boy was sure he didn't look the healthiest at the moment (after all, he figured he was pale since he couldn't feel any heat helping his phobia whatsoever), he wasn't going to act any different. He had appeared a certain way when he first "met" the other trainer, he could easily act that way again, unless the bridge broke him first. "Tch, don't look so happy to see me. If it weren't for those dumb shits over there, he gestured towards the oblivious couple as he spoke, "You'd probably be trying to kidnap and assault me like last night." Of course, it was all just a silly game now to him; or was it? Cyrus's mind kept him from thinking otherwise. After all, the other blonde was older than him, and this was the second time he'd shown up after Cyrus had been feeling eerily alone. He glared up at the man for a moment, before paying mind to his question. "Own the bridge, what? No, I was simply... taking precautions. Don't be ridiculous..." His voice faded a little as he realized how 'ridiculous' taking precautions on a bridge must have sounded in the first place. It wasn't exactly helping the face that, if he recalled correctly, the other blonde thought he was paranoid. Perhaps he could change the topic fast enough for Elijah to just wave it off? "Eheh... So what were you saying about that battle yesterday?"

[atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 450px; background-color: #b7b6c6;]i lie awake because i'm scared Ahh, yet another reason why he quite liked the shorter blonde. He seemed easily flustered, the mere name Sunshine caused the boy to pout and himself to chuckle. "Well, you haven't told me your name yet, so I've got nothing to call you except that. Shall I name you Squishy instead? " What fun was there to taunt someone if they weren't even going to act bothered. He rather liked it when others drew disatisfied faces, whether with annoyance or one of discontent, such things made him smile and feel satisfied that he had done his best to make another person miserable. For now, it seemed that Cyrus would be his victim. He shrugged as he watched the boy draw closer, letting a coy smile remain on his lips as he looked at the pouting boy.
Was he really that pale skinned?
He tilted his head to the side, smile turning into one of bemusement. Maybe it was the hazy fog that made him look so, or perhaps the darkness from the other night that had tricked his eye into thinking he was a bit more fair skinned. Was it just him, or did the kid actually look sickly for a moment there? But Cyrus's voice seemed strong enough, well, at least proving that he could still talk loud enough for him to hear and not faint all of a sudden on the bridge. He glanced over at the offending couple before laughing loudly. "I didn't do anything to you last night, we just talked, remember?" He said casually, as though stating a fact, but one that could quickly change. "Oh please, if I wanted to kidnap you, I would've done so already, as if those two would notice anything else but each other. Ahhh~ But such is love." He ended with a growl, as though he thought it to be the stupidest thing in the world. He raised a brow at the next statement. Precaution For what? He couldn't really see any hazards that the bridge might have, other than, you know, falling off, but that could only happen if one actually jumped off the damned thing. He would've asked more, were he not cut off.
Battle?
Right, right, the battle.
At that he grinned. Ah, so the kid actually remembered about that. He considered the boy a bit foolhardy at that point. Knowledge meant something in a battle, or so Elijah believed. Weaknesses, skills, information, they all had a part in the battle. Heck, he had seen Cyrus's pokemon, and yet he hadn't seen his, that was hardly fair, though Elijah wasn't too that bugged by that fact. "Oh, I guess I can't back down from this one, since it was practically me who was looking for a battle." He said innocently. "Though, I'd like to battle on the condition that you use Miko~" He added in, smiling cheerfully. He wasn't too sure on how strong the Dratini was, though judging by the way the pokemon clung to him the other night, he could safely say she was still pretty young.

He never really appreciated taking the teasing from others that he usually gave to them. He was a hypocrite, yes, but it didn't bother him. He would much rather be in the other male's shoes at the moment, so able to get a reaction out of him that one would be amused enough to last the rest of the day. Needless to say, Cyrus was not good at hiding his emotions. He might have been perfectly okay at controlling his tone and actions, but it was easy to tell when the boy was flustered, embarrassed, angry, upset... His face was expressive that way, even if just for a second. "I told you, you can just call me 'kid' or something- What the hell?" He could feel his face gain a hint of color as the other name was said. While he wasn't exactly sure of its origins, Cyrus didn't exactly know whether to take it as a good thing or not. "Where the hell did that come from? Squishy?" He looked down at himself for a moment, "I'm not even fat or anything..."
The boy was just starting to realize how irritating that grin on Elijah's face was becoming. It reminded him too much of his own attempts to fluster the Unova population, and that was bothersome. "At least look like you aren't enjoying yourself too much." he huffed, crossing his arms to hide trembling hands as he kept up the steady glare at the older blonde. He followed the other's gaze for a quick second, over to the ever sickening couple that insisted on making each other giggle. "If I remember correctly, which I normally do, you tried to get me to bend over. A sick joke..." Why had he been laughing? Cyrus didn't find himself at all funny, or the situation. But maybe that's because he was at the bottom right now, struggling to get back up.
Pausing for a moment, the younger blonde had to try and read the other's expression. He would have kidnapped him already? "Is that supposed to be reassuring?" He soon waved off his own question though, noting that smaller sound at the end of Elijah's sentence. Was it... grudging? He shrugged, attempting at another grin before looking over at the two again. "Bull shit. If they 'loved' each other, which is highly unlikely, they wouldn't be on a bridge. They'd be doing something memorable... Ah well. Either way, it just isn't possible~" He ended on a high note, waving the rest of the conversation off.
"Stop smiling so much." He couldn't help but say it; the words managed to slip out before he could stop them, and it make Cyrus more uncomfortable that he had let it slip. A small sigh escaped his lips as he stood on the bridge, glancing nervously at the pavement occasionally, twitching a little whenever a stronger wind picked up, and perhaps even having the color leave his face a little more whenever a large truck from below would rumble by. The teen's mind did the rest, convincing him that surely the bridge would be breaking any minute from all the weight. Forgetting for a moment that he had been in a conversation, the younger blonde took a deep breath, in an attempt to block out of the louder and more threatening sounds from the driving path.
It took a moment for him to realize the other had actually still been talking. "What about Mikros?" He blinked before he registered the rest, rubbing his eyes again, "Ehh? And why is that?!" He huffed, surely a large frown on his face as he took a step away from Elijah, remembering how he had been looking at the dratini the other night. "W-Well I g-guess..... But you know I have other pokemon, right? Are you asking for a single pokemon battle?" Why had he stuttered? It was frustrating to say the least. He reached to get the dratini's pokeball with shaky hands, silently cursing at himself for stuttering. Holding the shrunken capsule in his palm, he debated whether to let the little dragon out yet or not. Surely she was a little larger than last time, seeing as their small 'training' session the previous day left her a little stronger than before. "Really, you go ahead and get ready first. I still don't trust you," As if the older blonde hadn't figured that out already. How many times had he been accusing of kidnapping? Cyrus wasn't keeping track, and he could only hope that Elijah also neglected to count the times.
"... Are we actually battling on the bridge?"

The way he was, well at least to Elijah's opinion, trying to not look annoyed at all, only to fail at that very prospect. Though he couldn't exactly blame the boy for being so, he knew he himself could be as difficult or as understanding as he chose to be. He was getting angry, the older blonde deduced from the other's tone, about how he was being called, oh, and surprise surprise, it seemed he was against smiling too. "Don't you think its such a cute name though?~" He said cheerfully, hoping to annoy even further with his tone of voice alone. He uttered a sigh, as though he had come across a great dilemma. Which was whether he ought to call Cy, Sunshine or Squishy.
... Yeah, Sunshine it would be.
He quickly changed his smile into a frown. "Well, I was just kidding." He murmured looking away and placing on a sad expression but inside he was snickering at the boy. It was all in good fun, after all, the boy had seemed a bit horrified at the thought of sexual activities happening on the street. It was like bait had been flung in front of him, a piece of new ammo he could use. It was hard to resist when it was dangled right in front of his eyes. "Do you like me any better now? I am sorry for playing such a mean joke on you." He continued on with his false act of humility. If anything else, he hoped Cyrus would notice how insincere his tone was, just to further irk him.
Elijah shrugged at the question. Was he trying to be reassuring as the other had placed it? No, not really. He was just aiming to seem as careless as he was now. He chuckled, noticing the hint of resentment from the blonde's tone. Well now, he seemed displeased with the couple as much as he was. "And why can't this bridge be memorable? I rather think it's a nice spot. Quiet, nice view, semi-public." He hissed the last word, hoping the two would take notice... Nope, his efforts were in vain. He shrugged, it wasn't that much of a big deal if they wanted to be all cozy on a bridge, but it was grating on his nerves a little to be so ignored. Damn them.
He looked at the blonde blankly, watching as he fidgeted with every little tremor that passed through the bridge. if he were to make any assumptions, he'd say that Sunshine was very uncomfortable on the bridge. Perhaps he was only trying to put up a brave face for him, to try and hide how much he wanted to run away in fear from the steel structure. Oh goody, even more ammo for him to use~ Though part of him understood Cyrus's need to hide his discomfort. In his case, at least, he didn't like feeling vulnerable when it came to the things he feared. Whether for mockery or even blackmail, he'd place on a brave face if it meant that other people didn't need to know those fears about him.
And now Cyrus seemed to have drifted off.
How rude.
"You don't need to trust me to battle me, it's not like I'm going to steal her or anything." Oh, smooth move, way to push an idea at an over-imaginative and paranoid kid. "And yes, we're battling on the bridge, is that a problem, Sunshine?" He added in challengingly, puffing up his cheeks as if expecting some kind of retort. Now he'd see if the blonde was really afraid of bridges. "Oh, well, seeing you're a trainer, then yeah, I'd think that you'd have more than one pokemon on you. However." He paused to take a pokeball from his pocket. He released Ripjaw, the Gible onto the bridge. The dragon shook himself before looking at the two taller beings, first at Cyrus, then Elijah. He growled a little but was otherwise calm about being called out. A good sign. Thought Elijah, not really excited to have to deal with Ripjaw if he were in one of his moods. "I wanted to see which one of us is the better dragon trainer, yeah?" He made a conscious effort to stop himself from grinning, remembering Cyrus's request. So instead he looked over the blonde with polite interest. Wondering if he would rise to his challenge or not.
His bet was on yes though.
