The ride to Unova from her port city hometown had been long and tiring. Victoria realized about halfway through that she had no idea where exactly she was going. She had taken the opportunity to buy the first boat ticket she could find; in truth, she didn't know a thing about any of the cities or landscapes in the region. When she set foot in Castelia City, she was overwhelmed by the immense size of both the buildings and the crowds--and eventually got lost. But upon catching sight of a sign reading "Route 4", she decided that perhaps it would be best to start moving on in the hopes of finding a smaller, less intimidating town.
She was certainly not expecting a desert. Lexa the Chinchou waddled along in the sand beside her, clearly upset about this particular terrain. Victoria shaded her eyes with one hand and looked off into the distance in search of some sign of civilization; she saw none.
"I'm sorry, Lex," she sighed, "I didn't mean to get us lost. But we're going to get through this desert! We are going to find a nice place and meet nice people and Pokemon! We will!" She smiled at her Pokemon companion, her constant optimism shining through even now.
And so, Victoria and Lexa continued to trudge on through the desert, determined. They had no idea what kinds of Pokemon could live in these conditions, but they would soon find out.

Diglett | Ground-Type | Level 2 | Female | Arena Trap Scratch | Sand-AttackSuddenly, a small brown pokemon popped up out of the ground. "Diglett!" she called happily, bobbing from side-to-side. The ground-type seemed friendly. She was singing in the sun, rocking back and forth. This was her home and it always excited her to see the many people and pokemon who traveled through it. Wild Diglett Appeared!

Victoria was focusing on the horizon, hoping to see at least something in the distance; there were faint shadows but she couldn't tell what they were. She was quite shocked when the ground-type suddenly appeared from seemingly nowhere, and regarded it with a small "whoa" before realizing just what it was that she was seeing.
A Diglett, eh? That seemed like the kind of Pokemon that would live in such an area, she supposed. Very different from the usual species that lived around her hometown. It seemed to be docile, but she knew that Lexa could use a water-type attack to retaliate if it changed its attitude and decided to attack. Victoria squatted down in the sand--taking the opportunity for a short rest--and smiled at the mole Pokemon. "Hello!" she said to it simply, not sure if it could understand human speech and knowing that she definitely wouldn't be able to comprehend any reply that it might give.
Lexa the Chinchou waddled over and also began to speak to the wild Pokemon. "Hey, do you know how to get out of this place? To the next town? Not the big city." she asked, getting straight to the point. Victoria looked over to her friend, unable to understand what exactly the water- and electric-type was saying, but glad that Lexa had not attacked the little Diglett. After all, it wasn't doing them any harm, was it? Victoria saw no reason in battling a friendly Pokemon especially when she and Lexa were so tired.

Diglett | Ground-Type | Level 2 | Female | Arena Trap Scratch | Sand-AttackThe Diglett stopped bobbing about when the trainer approached. She knew that humans would sometimes attack pokemon, but this one seemed friendly. She had said something that he knew to be a human greeting, and she rocked back and forth happily in response. When Lexa asked her for directions, she thought for a moment. <If you keep going straight through the desert there is another human place ahead> she responded, unsure of exact directions. Although she lived in the area, she mostly stayed close to spot they were in now.

Oh, how she wished that she could communicate with Pokemon. It wasn't difficult to tell a Pokemon's personality by its actions alone, but the thought of being able to learn so much more about the strange creatures piqued her interest. She set those thoughts aside for the moment, though, as Lexa apparently got a response from the ground-type. The Chinchou turned around and began pointing with a stubby fin in the direction straight ahead. "Chin! Chinchou!" she squeaked.
"Oh, is that the way we're supposed to go?" Victoria asked, almost more to herself than to either of the nearby Pokemon. "That was smart of you, Lex, asking directions from a local!" The Chinchou gave a small nod, looking rather prideful. Victoria stood up once more, again scanning the horizon. The shapes she saw in the distance were a little bit clearer now--was that a bridge of some sort? If all else failed she could probably just follow the bridge to find civilization.
She recalled hearing a passerby in Castelia City mention construction on this route, but wasn't sure where exactly it was located. As long as they could get through at least somewhat easily. But a part of her was still curious about this desert; there was no such thing in Johto or even in neighboring Kanto. What other kinds of desert-dwelling Pokemon might be out here? She really wanted to leave the Diglett alone; it seemed to be minding its own business perfectly fine. Awfully brave for such a tiny Pokemon to be alone in a big desert, she thought.
"Well," Victoria began once again. "Um, thank you!" She looked down at the Diglett, smiling and waving at it.

Diglett | Ground-Type | Level 2 | Female | Arena Trap Scratch | Sand-AttackThe human was waving, but the Diglett had no hands of her own to wave back. Instead she could only bob back and forth again. "Diglett, Dig!" she replied back to the human in a sing-song voice. She hoped they would find their way out of the desert and get where they were going. Nidoran | Poison-Type | Level 6 | Male | Poison Point Leer | PeckA cloud of dust and sand was kicked up as a small purple pokemon charged towards the little gathering. He seemed angry or in a bad mood. In truth he was just territorial, very territorial. Glaring angrily, the Nidoran used Leer on the Diglett. How dare the little mole be in his area. A shiver ran down the smaller pokemon at the look. Not wanting to start a battle, she retreated underground quickly, fleeing the angry poison-type. With one opponent gone, the Nidoran turned it's attention to Lexa. Scratching the ground with his front paw, he looked ready to charge for an attack. Wild Nidoran has appeared! Nidoran used LEER on Diglett Diglett's Defense was lowered! Wild Diglett fled! (OOC: Whoops. XD I kept playing as male pokemon so I kind of forgot the Diglett's gender -fixed now-)

She watched, appalled, as the male Nidoran was able to frighten off the poor Diglett with just a Leer attack.
"That wasn't very nice!" she scolded the wild Pokemon, despite knowing that it probably wouldn't do anything. While the ground-type from earlier had seemed friendly and calm, this time Victoria was aware of the fact that the Nidoran was wanting a fight. She looked down at Lexa, and saw that the Chinchou seemed to be thinking the same sorts of thoughts; the water- and electric-type was glaring back at the poison-type from beside her trainer's feet.
Not wanting the Nidoran to get the first strike, Victoria quickly gave an order to her Pokemon. "Lexa, use Bubble!" she cried, clenching her fists and preparing for her first Pokemon battle in Unova. While Lexa had no type advantages against the Poison Pin Pokemon, she had no type disadvantages either. Victoria only hoped that her foe was not too much stronger than the Chinchou; if she ended up with an injured Pokemon in the middle of the desert, it would not end well.
Lexa hopped forward on her short legs, the lights hanging from her head flickering slightly. "If it's a battle you want," she said to the Nidoran, "It's a battle you'll get!" And with that, she opened her mouth, took a deep breath, and exhaled a small stream of blue bubbles in the Nidoran's direction.

Nidoran | Poison-Type | Level 6 | Male | Poison Point Leer | PeckSo the Chinchou was fighting back? Good, the Nidoran loved a battle. Seems they were taking the initiative, as small bubbles flew towards the poison-type. He knew there was no time to avoid them, so he just charged straight into them, starting his own attack. Lowering his head, he aimed the horn at Lexa for a Peck attack. Nidoran was hit by BUBBLE [Same-type move: 1.5x attack] Nidoran used PECK

At least the battle was getting off to a good start. She found it odd that the poison-type didn't even seem to try to dodge the attack at all, but she soon realized why. As the Nidoran picked up speed, she realized that he was launching himself straight at her Chinchou, preparing a Peck attack.
"Lexa--!" Victoria was about to issue a command, but her foe's attack was too swift to dodge. Victoria frowned as Lexa was hit by the attack, the pointed horn on the Nidoran's head colliding with the Chinchou's blue body. She was pretty sure that Peck was technically a flying-type attack, so hopefully Lexa's electric-type would provide some defensive protection. Nonetheless, the sheer force of the collision was enough to knock Lexa over into the sand.
The Chinchou did not stay down long, though; after a brief moment of flailing around in the desert sand, she righted herself and turned to face the Nidoran once more, stubbornly standing up to him like she did with most challenges. The antennae on her head swung forward, and Victoria seemed to understand what Lexa wanted to do. "Use Shock Wave!" she shouted, choosing to utilize Lexa's egg move. The two lamps framing Lexa's face began to spark and glow with electricity, which suddenly burst into several sparkling arcs that traveled in the Nidoran's direction, crackling through the dry desert air. "How about some of this?" she shouted in her small, squeaky voice.

Nidoran | Poison-Type | Level 6 | Male | Poison Point Leer | PeckUnfortunately for Lexa, when Nidoran's horn made contact with her, his ability kicked in and poisoned the water-type. Taking advantage of her vulnerable position in the sand, he charged in for another Peck attack, lowering his horn once again. He had not been expecting the sudden retaliation in the form of Shock Wave, and was easily caught in the surge of electricity. The attack was powerful, but the poison-type was determined. The Chinchou could feel a pang of pain as the poison began to take it's toll. Lexa was poisoned by Nidoran's Poison Point ability! (Randomizer rolled under 30) Nidoran used PECK Nidoran was hit by SHOCK WAVE [Same-type move: 1.5x attack] Lexa is hurt by poison!

Lexa stood still for a moment, feeling a little dizzy as poison began to flow through her body. Nevertheless, she was determined to win this battle; the Nidoran's Peck attack had taken a small chunk out of her energy but she still had some to spare. Just as the Chinchou began to focus back on the Nidoran once more, she suddenly saw him charging back at her again with horn lowered. But this time, she was ready, and rolled to the side, just barely missing the attack.
Victoria watched on in silence, pleased with her Pokemon's dodge of the attack but beginning to worry that something wasn't right. "Use Shock Wave again!" Victoria shouted, her voice beginning to waver as she noticed Lexa's sudden bit of slight disorientation. Despite the problem, though, the Chinchou righted herself, turned to face the Nidoran, and began to charge up electricity once more. The lights on her antennae glowed once more and began to crackle and spark. Finally she unleashed another wave of electric energy that moved toward her opponent.
After the attack, though, Lexa backed down for a moment, shaking her head. It was then that Victoria suddenly realized what was going on. "Poison," she said under her breath, to herself. "Hang in there, Lexa!" Victoria cried out, hoping that a bit of extra encouragement would help. She and Lexa were both determined to win this battle. It was their only option, really, out in the middle of the desert.

Nidoran | Poison-Type | Level 6 | Male | Poison Point Leer | PeckThe fact that Lexa dodged his attack only served to enrage the Nidoran further. Once again she was sending out that surge of electricity. He attempted to dodge, but it was no use as the energy surrounded him. The use of the attack caused another pain to ring through Lexa. It seemed that the more energy she used, the faster the poison would take effect. Could she defeat Nidoran before the poison finished her off? Not willing to wait for an answer, the Nidoran sent a menacing Leer in the direction of the Chinchou. She had dodged him, so now he would attempt to weaken her further before attacking. Nidoran was hit by SHOCK WAVE [Same-type move: 1.5x attack] Lexa is hurt by poison! Nidoran used LEER
