The Unova region was vast, much more so than he had expected, he had been walking all day and had only managed to get as far as route 6. It was not because his basket woven sandals were getting the best of his foot's durability, but more so the nervousness of being just above water that made him veer off of the route. It was one thing to trudge on through the frustration of a maze but it was another when you had the threatening wrath of a river just below you. "What If I was to fall in?" Considering the fact that he could not swim and that his only pokemon was non-aquatic, chances were he would drown for sure.
After running the back of his hand across his forehead, wiping away the nervous sweat that had begun to perspire his skin, he instinctively adjusted his red convex spectacles and proceeded forth. Partly ashamed of his cowardice, the young trainer felt it necessary to make up for his lack of "groin" and take on the next obstacle that came across him. The patter of his footsteps slid to a halt on the gravel littered ground as a cave soon came into view. Recalling his non verbal promise to himself, he picked up his pace again without hesitation. Sure it was dark and creepy, but darn it, he was determined to conquer this new obstacle!
Upon entering the damp mouth of the cave he was met with heavy darkness. All he could hear was the feint echoing of water drops that trickled down from the rocky spikes above. Cool chills swept through the cave with a manufactured hissing sound due to its natural construction, the breeze probing through his dark green gi. Though very much afraid, he was also quite excited to see what lied ahead. His thrill for adventure now eclipsing his inhibitions and wet discomfort from the puddle of water he had just stepped in, effectively drenching his black baggy sweat pants from the ankles down. Now with every step he made, the damp squeaking and flopping sounds of his wet sandals accompanied him without fail.

yamask | level 5 | male | mummy knows astonish & protect & disable The Yamask was just hovering above the water, looking down to see his reflection. It was pretty dark in the cave, but it was his highly trained eyes that kept him in here. Although, the next thing he knew, he heard the sound of sandals squeaking and slopping like some wet piece of cardboard. He turned around and the Yamask was face to face with a little man. . . How did he get into his house?

"Tsk!" Sucking his teeth in frustration towards his ill fortune, he pinched both legs of his sweat pants and pulled them up slightly as if they could possibly get any more wet from the water below. Though the watered ground was shallow, he suspected that there was a possibility that their might be large inconsistencies that the water disguised. The last thing he wanted was for his next step to send him plunging into several feet of cold cave water. "Gasp!" The thought of him sinking quickly reiterated his inability to swim, the frightening thought stopping him in his tracks. Upon his momentary halt he decided to take a deep breath, he was starting to scare himself for no reason. Besides, he promised that he would conquer this obstacle and he could not in good conscious go back on his own word. Dropping the pinches of sweat pants in each of his index and thumb fingers, brimming with a new found confidence, he lifted his head up and was going to begin to march forward with great energy, but there was something in his way. "Bwahh!" After shrieking in terror he stumbled backwards a few feet before falling on his arse, now submerging his lower back and rear end. Jousting up in shock from the cold water he lunged back up to his feet. "What the!? Is that, a pokemon?" He inquired to himself in thought as he wiped away a barrage of stray water droplets from his specs before adjusting them and squinting his eyes up. Frantically, he began to dismount his backpack and fish through it, digging out his bright red and white pokedex. "Let's see what kind of pokemon you are." He said with shuddering curiosity as he aimed the handheld computer at the dark pokemon. "Yamask, a Ghost-Type Pokemon. Known for it's shadow like figure and the gold mask attached to the end of its tail." As the monotone female computer voice spoke, its echoes traveled prominently throughout the cave. "A Ghost-Type huh." He added with a tone of pleasant surprise as he adjusted his glasses and closed his pokedex shut. He then bent his knee's and jousted back while simultaneously dismounting a pokeball from his holster belt. "Go, Drifloon!" He exclaimed as his sole pokemon emerged from its pokeball in a brilliant white light, materializing right before the hovering Yamask. Tilting its purple ballon head to the side, Drifloon took its time sizing up its fellow ghost pokemon as it hovered peacefully in front of it. The young trainer would wait for the Yamask to make the first move if any, he did not want to go charging in, after all this might he be his first battle. Standing there in anticipation for a few awkward moments seemed like three long minuets to the fresh trainer. The entirety of this temporary "dead time" had him going back and forth in his mind. "W-what should I do if it attacks? Or Maybe I should attack first?" He found his palms growing sweaty as his heart beat heightened, as far as he knew, Drifloon had never been in a battle either. They were inexperienced, but he was determined not to let that show, he had to be fearless. "That's right, I've go to show no fear! Just have to act like I've done this a million times before!" He thought, puffing up his chest, making way for a new up and coming surge of confidence. "Bwahhh!" His knees buckled and lips whimpered as he stumbled backward again, but this time managing to stay on his feet. The Yamask's ghostly wail scared the crud out of him, so much for showing no fear. As he adjusted his glasses for the umteenth time with quivering hands, he quickly noticed his Drifloon bouncing back, apparently in pain. "So it attacked, I've got to do something!" Taking in another big breath, he summoned up a fit of courage, he had to help his balloon friend. "Don't worry Drifloon! Recover and use Disable!" He exclaimed as he clinched his fist in enthusiasm, biting his bottom lip in anticipation. After the momentum of the successful shouting attack had subsided, Drifloon regained its bearings with a few shakes of its head and lurched forward to perform Disable. His heart rate increased yet again, but this time it was not from nervousness, but yet excitement. It was exhilarating, his first pokemon battle, many of nights he spent dreaming of what this moment would be like and now it was finally happening. He could not help but widen his eyes at the sound of his own battle commands, if he did not know any better he could have sworn he sounded like a real pokemon trainer. The way he responded to the situation and called out the appropriate measures for his Drifloon to take was impressive, at least by his own standards. As Drifloon moved in, it appeared his disable had hit the mark, and by the looks of things, the wild Yamask was unaware of it. The four eyed trainer smirked as he watched his pokemon foe realize that his ghostly wail was no longer useable, now it was time for Drifloon to capitalize. As the ghostly balloon bared down on its opponent with its long stringy black arms, he attempted to perform constrict. "Alright! Here it comes!" The exact moment before impact a spherical orb of white energy encased the Yamask, effectively protecting it from Drifloons attack. "A shield!?" He said with intense curiosity as he watched his Drifloon stumble back a bit from its own reflected momentum. "So I guess it has some type of shield move, this stinks, Drifloon doesn't have anymore moves to try against it. Oh well, I just have to hope that Yamask can't keep up that shield forever." "I'm doing the right thing aren't I? I mean, we cant win if we don't attack right?" He hated how he had to second guess himself, it was times like this that he wished he had some experience under his belt. At least then he could lean his faith up against something he had already been faced with. Although he had not observed Drifloon in combat prior to this encounter, he had a feeling that it could not hold out for too much longer. The bead of sweat on the side of its purple face as it used constrict was a sign of this. As happy as he was to finally get a successful attack in on this Yamask, he had not time to celebrate, as the Yamask was looking to counter. "Look out Drifloon, use Minimize!" Though he was inexperienced, he did know how to pay attention, he had just used the very same move the Yamask was trying to pull, it was a Disable. Knowing that Disable was a normal attack meant that Drifloon had a chance to evade it, and as it released its stringy arms from its foe, it deflated a great deal and zipped away successfully. "Great job Drifloon, I'll take it from here!" He exclaimed as his pokemon slowly scooted back over to him whilst he retrieved a vacant pokeball from his belt holster. "Go, Pokeball!" He shouted as he threw the red and white sphere towards the visibly weakened Yamask, looking to capture the fascinating ghost pokemon. yamask | level 5 | male | mummy knows astonish & protect & disable All of a sudden the Yamask could no longer move very much. He just kept slamming into the sides of the new constriction, trying to force his way out of this new, tight, ball. All he wanted was to make it back to his parents! They'd be so sad with him now gone! And, the more he kept slamming against the walls of the ball, the more exhausted her got untill. . . He just gave up. No one messed with his friend and got away with it!

The tension mounted for him the moment he released the pokeball, he could feel the sweat from his finger tips rubbing off of the polished porcelain cylinder. He had never actually thrown a pokeball before, the circumstance under how he acquired Drifloon were very different. There was no aggression, but rather, he sort of just fell into his lap in many respects. "I hope I threw it hard enough." He thought in a nervous tone as he felt that his sweaty hands might have caused the ball to slip upon the release of his throw. As he watched the pokeball sail through the air, his heart sank with fear. "Oh no, I overthrew it!" He exclaimed in non verbal terror as he eyeballed the high arch of his throw. But as he watched, he was sure he had observed a miracle as the pokeball's momentum peaked and dropped perfectly beside the Yamask. In a brilliant white light, the Yamask was sucked into the pokeball before it hit the ground. The pokeball shook furiously, but each time, the force just a little bit weaker, until finally it sat motionless. "Drifloon!"The shriek of his Drifloon had quickly sucked him out of his moment of glory as it strafed to the side, evading a barrage of bubbles coming from the water up ahead. Although a bit wary, Drifloon was still on its "toes" as the mindset of its Minimize move was still fresh on it's mind. Jutting to the side the rookie trainer quickly adjust his specs and analyzed the situation. "There!" Off to the left side he spotted a sting ray like pokemon floating on top of the water, visibly upset for some unknown reason. "Oh man, another battle, this is getting intense!" He uttered in thought while gearing his mind to the new situation at hand. By this time now he could safely admit to himself that he was getting accustom to the flow of pokemon battle. Sure this was only his second encounter, but it was consecutive, and thus far he was able handle it with relative success. He noticed that his nervousness had gone down and that he was more relaxed than he was initially and most of all he was no longer sweating. With all of this progress though, he still had a myriad of butterflies dancing in his stomach, not from anxiety but more than anything, excitement. It seemed now the thrill was what encompassed his demeanor, and he could only hope that attitude would remain persistent. Looking on in anticipation, he was happy to see that both of Drifloons attacks had been successful, in fact, the purple balloon pokemon had yet to miss! Though he found it best not to say this out loud as he did not want to jynx himself. Towards the end of Drifloon's Constrict the adolescent trainer noticed the aquatic pokemon squirming free. "Look out Drifloon, dodge it!" He had seen the counter attack coming and could only hope Drifloon would have time to adjust and strafe out of harms way. "Drifloon!" As much as his loyal pokemon tried to promptly obey the command, he was simply too tired to completely dodge in a timely fashion, hence suffering a glancing blow to its side. "Oh no, Drifloon!" He had almost forgotten how tired it was, remembering it showed signs of fatigue at the end of its battle with Yamask. As oppose to pushing his pokemon any further and risking more displays of detrimental exhaustion, he beckoned it back over to him. Hovering with sloppy posture it was safe to say Drifloon was at its limit, and it surely deserved a good rest. "Don't worry, you've done more than your share. Leave it to me, I'll figure something out." In all actuality though, he had no plan, he really hadn't banked on capturing this particular pokemon, but it was his only other option. Besides, he could tell that this pokemon was weaker than the Yamask he captured, it was obvious by its body language after being hit with Drifloon's Constrict. It was a lot less sturdy than Yamask was after it was hit, he just may have a chance to succeed. "Pokeball, Go!" He exclaimed after retrieving yet another white/red porcelain sphere from his belt holster, looking to perform yet another miracle. Oh no! This couldn't be happening, she couldn't be forced to leave her happy little cave as well! But, sadly, she had no choice in the matter, as she was suddenly unable to even try to get out of the clutches of the pokemon contraption. She was caught.

Again, he could definitely tell he had matured as a trainer, just within this double encounter alone. This time around, when he threw the pokeball, he was not worried. In fact he had some faith in himself now since he had succeeded in throwing and capturing the Yamask with his previous pokeball. Despite this however, he was still tied down with suspense, but he was confident in his throw. It was on target and on par. Before the sting ray pokemon could manage another move it had been whisked away in a white brilliance and sucked within the confines of a pokeball. A bead of suspenseful sweat raced down the side of his face as he watched the pokeball plop down upon the water, shaking vigorously as it displayed excellent buoyancy. It did not put up as much of a fight as the Yamask did, probably since it wasn't as strong, as the pokeball regained its still posture only after a few seconds. "I-I did it.." A part of him wasn't surprised he had succeeded given his performance throughout, but the other side was ecstatic with childish glee. Though now the only part left was to retrieve the pokeballs, but he wasn't about to risk drowning in his efforts. "You mind Drfiloon?" He inquired kindly as he pointed at both pokeballs in the wake of the deepened cave water. I mean sure he was tired, but at least he didn't have to worry about drowning since he hovered for a living, right? [Topic Finished]
