Oliver kept one hand on the strap of his backpack, which he had slung over one shoulder. He stared ahead of him, blinking once through the sun and lifting his other hand to shield his eyes. It was hot outside, so he was happy he'd worn just a white t-shirt and shorts. Even back at home, the weather was cooler. However, home was a long ways away. This was an entirely different region. It was all new to him, traveling alone with only basic necessities and, finally, his first pokemon. The Electrike was trotting quietly a meter or so ahead of Oliver. Now and then, he would lift his nose to sniff at the air, and then continue. He seemed to know what he was doing more than Oliver did. "Hendrix," Oliver called out, "You good?" He wasn't sure if it would give him any response. His parent's pokemon, a Chatot and a Skitty, had always been social and noisy. The small dog simply let out a gruff bark and walked faster. Oliver frowned slightly and picked up his pace, struggling to keep up without breaking into a jog. "We can walk slower," he offered, calling out to the pokemon that was now leading by at least 5 meters. Hendrix finally slowed and walked side-by-side with Oliver, though he looked clearly unhappy. Oliver looked down at him and scratched the back of his neck. It would take a while to get close to his first pokemon; that only made sense. At least the only other pokemon he'd ever had contact with were more domestic, simply house pets. Hendrix had a sense of determination. "Is it because I'm a cat person?" Oliver asked with a laugh, before looking down at Hendrix with a smile. The electrike simply kept walking. Oliver's smile disappeared. "Well it's nothing personal, anyway," he muttered, returning his focus to his surroundings. He wished there was at least more shade, but he found himself in the sun more than anything. He glanced over his shoulder, pushing strands of his hair out of the way. There were dark clouds behind him, but he couldn't tell from here which direction they were going in. At least, if they caught up with him, he had the proper clothes. He looked forwards again and slipped his arm through the other strap of his backpack. Hopefully he'd run into a pokemon that he'd be able to battle, or even catch. He was curious how Hendrix would do. Judging by his attitude so far, the little electric pokemon would make a formidable opponent; but there was no way to tell just yet.

Pichu | Level 1 | Static | Female Knows Thundershock and Charm >Herpherpderpderp< A little pichu was just suddenly riding on the back of a certain Electrike, and she didn't seem like she was the brightest crayon in the box at the moment. In fact, she had her eyes trained on the. . . Rear? Was she sitting backwards on the new-found horse? Indeed she was.

Hendrix didn't seem to realise what was going on for a moment. The dog stared forwards and it's tail flicked, accidentally hitting the Pichu over the head. Oliver looked down in surprise at the strange sound, watching as all of the fur on Hendrix's back went on end. The dog seemed to freeze, and it tensed, going completely still and letting out a low, steady growl. Oliver grinned, slightly amused by the tiny little yellow pokemon. He crouched down, balancing on the balls of his feet, and looked at it from behind Hendrix. He tilted his head and stared at it. Inwardly, he admitted it was quite cute. He couldn't ignore that fact. "Hey you," he greeted it, placing the tips of his fingers in the dirt to keep himself balanced. "What are you doing? You wanna get off, maybe? I think you're... you're kinda making him angry," Oliver noted. Hendrix growled louder, his back twitching. He flicked his tail again, trying to hit the Pichu.

Pichu | Level 1 | Static | Female Knows Thundershock and Charm The next thing she knew, something hard and fuzzy thumped her head. But did she pay attention to that? Nope, she was more focused on this glittery thing laying in the grass. >SPARKLY SPARKLE SUNSHINE< Almost instantly, paying no mind to the trainer talking to her as she was solely focused on the sparking something in the dirt road. . . It looked like a coin. Quickly, the pichu hopped off the back of the Electrike Horse, and bent down to pick up the coin. But when she came in contact with it, she unknowingly used Thundershock at the sky. But the lightning bent through the air and instead came in contact with the Electrike, according to his ability being Lightning Rod.

Oliver laughed, having no idea what the Pichu was saying. By now, though, he could tell it was very young. He wondered why it was wandering around outside by itself, being so little and vulnerable. Hendrix seemed relieved once the menace had jumped off of his back, and turned to watch it pick up the coin. He let out a bark in surprise as the thunder shock was redirected, and hit him. Oliver stood up and watched Hendrix carefully, not sure what the dog would do. The Electrike had obviously been pissed off, however, and used Thunder Wave immediately, sending sparks flying at the tiny little mouse. "Hey, Hendrix!" Oliver protested. "It's so little, it didn't mean to, I'm sure. You don't need to-" But the Electrike's impatience had gotten the better of it, and it used Shock Wave without hesitating any further. A stronger electric current was sent at the Pichu. Oliver frowned, moving to step between the two pokemon, hopefully stopping any further attacks. Why hadn't Hendrix listened to him? He didn't bother lecturing his pokemon now; instead, he turned to the Pichu, wondering if it was alright.

Pichu | Level 1 | Static | Female Knows Thundershock and Charm She dropped the coin immediately as something new caught her eye, sparks in the air! >AMG SPARKLES. IT'S TINKER BELL< She instantly tried to cup her hands around one, and when she did, she felt her body do a jolt, and immediately she couldn't move at all. But that didn't bother her, she instead stared up at the sky, perfectly happy with the clouds. The shock wave hit her as well, and she felt her body twinge a bit at the sudden pain, but she still didn't bother with the fact that it stung like hell and that she was too busy staring at the clouds to notice that her eyes were starting to slide shut as unconsciousness hit her. . . CAPTURE FAINTED PICHU OR GO ON YOUR WAY?

Oliver watched with his mouth gaped open as the Pichu happily took in the Thunder Wave, and then was helpless to the Shock Wave attack. Him and Hendrix exchanged glances. "You shouldn't have done that," Oliver said angrily. "Next time you listen to what I tell you." The Electrike let out some sort of a huff, but looked away, obviously deciding not to push it any further. Oliver looked at the fainted Pichu. It was dumb as a doorbell, which was extremely unfortunate, as he'd always wanted a Pikachu that... was actually somewhat clever. But perhaps it could be taught. Needless to say, he'd feel eternally guilty if he just walked past it and left it in the middle of the route. His shoulders drooped, and he sighed. There was only one thing to do. He grabbed an empty pokeball from his belt, and tossed it towards the little yellow pokemon. Then he looked back at Hendrix. "You two are going to be best friends," he said mockingly. Hendrix replied with a growl. [/blockquote]

Squirtle | Level 4 | Torrent | Male Knows Tacke and Tailwhip The Squirtle was just sitting in the middle of the road, staring at the duo that had just captured the stupid pichu... While holding two sticks together and rubbing them as fast as possible trying to make a fire. >FIRE FIRE FIRE<

The pokeball soared back to Oliver's hand, and he clipped it back to his belt. He wondered how he'd ever be able to level up the weak little Pichu, or what he'd do with it at all. His mind wasn't focused on it for long; the Squirtle caught his attention immediately. He couldn't help the grin that suddenly grew on his face. "A Squirtle!" he exclaimed, sounding almost high-pitched. It was one of his favourites. Hendrix looked at him in disgust. Oliver walked forwards at an awkward pace, holding himself back from running straight at the small turtle. "Hey!" he greeted it excitedly. "You're trying to make a fire? You know that takes forever, right?" Years ago for school, Oliver had been given the task to make a fire. It had taken him two hours until he finally got one going, and since then, he always carried lighters and matches. It hadn't been the best experience. Hendrix followed, moving towards the Squirtle and staring at it curiously. It sent out a small spark; nothing big, but something, at least, towards the two sticks the Squirtle was rubbng together, in an attempt to help out. [/blockquote]

Squirtle | Level 4 | Torrent | Male Knows Tacke and Tailwhip All of a sudden the sticks caught on fire! He held up one of the sticks, and started waving it around like a madman. >FIRE! BURN! BURRRRN!< And then that went from being satisfied with the little fire he had to wanting an even bigger one, so he ran to the nearest patch of grass, and lit that up with his burning stick.

(( ... nearest patch of fire? xD ))
Oliver watched all of this and took in a sharp breath as the flames caught. When the Squirtle moved to start an even bigger fire, Oliver put his hands over his head. "Oh. Great. Good job," he snapped, turning his attention to Hendrix. The Electrike looked up with a guilty expression. Oliver's mind reeled with possibilities. What if the fire spread all throughout the region? What if he was banned, and never allowed anywhere because people would just know him as "Oliver Stride, that dumbshit kid who set the entire region on fire?" Minnie would never talk to him again! "Shock Wave," he ordered without thinking it through any further. "Might as well start with the source of the problem," he added. Hendrix bounded towards the Squirtle, electricity crackling around him before he sent it all flying at the water pokemon. For a moment, Oliver wondered how his next letter home would turn out. 'Dear Mum. Seems like all of the pokemon here are mentally retarded. There's something wrong with them but I'm not sure what.'

(( Errrrr grass* I didn't typo or anything. lD ))Squirtle | Level 4 | Torrent | Male Knows Tacke and Tailwhip The Squirtle was just about to set the patch of grass on fire, and start a fairly big bonfire for all of them, but he was rudely interrupted by a certain Electrike, and when he was hit by the shockewave, sending shivers down his back, he turned around, fully prepared to fight back. But first, he lit the fire out by sticking it in the dirt. Then, he used a combo of tailwhip and tackle at the dog-looking pokemon, waving his tail in the air before rearing up and launching himself at the other.

Oliver didn't have time enough to tell Hendrix to dodge the attack. He took a staggered step forwards before reminding himself that it wasn't in his place to intervene; that was the entire point of the battle. Still, it came as a surprise. He wasn't sure what the Squirtle's reaction would have been, but this one seemed to make sense. At least it wasn't as dim-witted as the Pichu had been. For a moment, he wondered if letting the dog do what it wanted might be a better strategy. However, he knew he'd never improve as a trainer if he tried that. "Watch out," he stammered, too late. The Electrike was caught off guard, and hit head on by the Squirtle. He tumbled backwards a bit before jumping back up onto his feet, sparks crackling around him still. Oliver let his shoulders relax a little bit as he realised how sweaty he'd become. His heart was racing, but he couldn't help the excited grin that had formed on his face. This was his dream. A real pokemon battle; real responsibility. It struck him, right at that moment, that it had finally come true. It would all be worth it. After that two second-long realization, he returned his focus back to the battle. Hendrix looked slightly shaken up, and lifted his head to look at Oliver with an expectant expression. The Electrike was waiting to be told what to do. "Thunder Wave, and tackle!" Oliver decided after a moment to think. A weaker wave of electricity flew towards his opponent, and Hendrix followed right after it, charging straight for the Squirtle.
