Tears from rock (Oliver)

[Nix Night]

Nix walked along with her hands deep in the pockets of her black And baggy combats with the light and sweet smelling wind brushing through her hair and blowing it over her sholders and the dirt path smelling really not so nice but that just made the walking more fun for her and her team. she jumped as she heard her partner mutter something small and lean forwards on her sholder and drop forwards , she reached both her arms out and caught him as he fell and then looked down at him, why?" she asked. Phantom, a level seven Ralts and nixs starter pokemon, had actually begun to get a little annoyed as his partners long and messy red hair had kept burshing in to his face and so just to tell nix that clearly, he smiled before opening his mouth, "raaa,lt".

Nix nodded her head and then looked over her shoulder and gave a low whistle and she saw something move in the bushes. A deerling lifted it's head and broke in to a grin and trot towards nix and then butted his head against her side as he came over and nix bent down a little and placed her partner on his back. she heard something move in the bushes and she turned, a dark form appeared between the soggy grasses and the trees that surrounded them and nix smiled and looked over her sholder. "will you get over here already!" nix said with a chuckle and a moment later a umbreon came running out of the bushes with a grin on her face, the umbreon had a odd tuft on her head and a small flicked up tuft at the end of her tail too. Nix smiled at her only female pokemon and then she waved a hand and as Tain and phantom ran forwards to see the umbreon came running over to nix a train came past behind her as she scooped up her umbreon and it mewed up at her

[Oliver Stride]

Oliver stepped onto Route 2 and took a deep breath. He looked down to Hendrix, who looked restless and tired. The Electrike had had a long day, but Oliver had to keep moving. He smiled.
"Take a break, okay?"
Resignedly, Hendrix returned into his pokeball on Oliver's belt, and the trainer kept moving. For a while, he enjoyed the silence of just his footsteps on the dirt path and the sound of nature, but after a while, he found himself feeling lonely once again. His mind wandered back to Minnie, all the way in Lilycove. He wondered if she missed him. They had been close friends, and she had been one of his favourites. They talked a lot. He missed her company, and in general, he missed her. He was curious what she thought of him becoming a trainer; but there must have been a reason that she'd never been interested in him before. Would this adventure really change anything?
He got annoyed quickly with how easily it was to think himself into a storm, so he released the newest addition to his team: Harrison. The Phanpy landed steadily on the ground and looked up at Oliver with big eyes, and trumpeted.
"Harrison," Oliver greeted him. "You gonna walk with me?"
The tiny elephant agreed, and swung it's snout at Oliver's leg with some sort of happy sound. However, the force of it against his shin sent Oliver face-down into the dirt path. He landed flat on his face, his arms stretched out in front of him. Slowly, he turned his head to the side and spat dirt out of his mouth. He blinked, looking at the strange sideways view he now had of the trees. Harrison trotted into view, and the Phanpy sat right in front of his face and bent to stare at him curiously.
"You are one little dangerous creature," Oliver said with narrowed eyes. Harrison tilted his head in confusion, and Oliver laughed, slowly getting back up to his feet. He brushed himself off, and looked up to see Nix a little ways up the path. He hadn't noticed her before. In fact, he hadn't seen any other trainers yet.

Curious, he headed towards her with Harrison in tow, the young Phanpy distractedly staring off at the bushes and trees as he walked.
"Hey," Oliver greeted the girl as he got close enough. "Are you a trainer?" It might have been a stupid question, seeing as Nix had three pokemon crowded around her; but it seemed like a reasonable way to start a conversation.

Shadow gave a loud mew in nixs arms and nix leaned away from her and looked at her ,"hello, human here with ears" she said with a small smile and shadow twitched her ears together a little bit before turning her head to the side. Nix looked at her to see if she was just scouting the area but when she heard a voice calling over to her she rolled her eyes ,"do not say I told you so" she said in a small voice and shadow mewed again.

Leaning forwards and putting shadow down, she turned towards the voice and then gave a small smile ,"how did you work it out? The pokeballs or the pokedex or just the fact my team are odd and don't like their balls so surround me?" she asked with a laugh as phantom clapped his hands together at her joke. He took a step forwards and pulled on her combats before pointing to her pocket and she shook her head, "I know mate, I'll read it later when we don't have things to do" she said and phantom shook his head and tugged on her combats again and pointed to the pocket and nix sighed in defeat before lowering her hand and dipping it in to the pocket and taking the letter out and holding it. She waved it front of the Ralts nose and then nodded her head ,"I have it out see, I'll read it in a moment" she said and phantom rolled his eyes at her

He paused as the girl turned and started talking, and as she laughed he smiled and put his hands in the pockets of his jeans.
"The pokemon, I think. Lucky guess," he said. He'd had plenty of time back in Lilycove figuring out who were trainers, and who were not. Generally they looked like they would be ready for anything, and didn't look like normal civilians at all. Pokemon, however, was the biggest giveaway.
He watched absently as the tiny psychic pokemon tugged at her pants. That was one he'd never seen before; at least Pichu and Squirtle he could recognize, but this one was altogether different. He swung his backpack down off his shoulder and rummaged around in it until he found his pokedex, which he flipped open and pointed at the Ralts.
"Ralts, a psychic type. It uses the horns on its head to sense human emotions. It is said to appear in front of cheerful people."
"Hmm." Oliver looked back at the Ralts. He wasn't sure what to think of psychic types. They were a lot like ghost pokemon; though he knew if he ever said that to a ghost or psychic type pokemon, they'd probably start attacking him for the mere implication that they were similar.
Harrison, then, trotted forwards to meet the Ralts. The Phanpy plopped his butt down on the dirt right next to the little psychic pokemon, and held up his trunk in some form of a greeting.
Oliver glanced up at the letter Nix was holding.
"Oh, sorry, I hope I didn't interrupt you or something. You can read it if you want," he offered, laughing nervously. He couldn't help but notice the Umbreon and Deerling; they looked like a well-rounded team already.
"You've got some cool-looking pokemon."

Nix smiled at the boy and just shook her head ,"this was the first note I've had from my brother in about 7 years, me and my family don't get along you see" she said and then shrugged her shoulders. "I haven't spoken to any of them since I ran away from home but it seems tommy is as curious as I am to why Jamie has chosen now to talk to me" she said with a small smile. She nodded at the boys next set of words before looking down at his own pokemon and grinning ,"a kanto trainer? Or have your team just happened to include him as a starter? Or am I dead off and do you have other pokemon I don't know about? I myself have always found phanpy deadly cute but a bit too big" she said as she flicked her letter open and started to read the words written on it.

Phantom watched the new pokemon greet him and as always, he chose which one he would greet first. Walking over to the phanpy he poked the end of of it's trunk like nose as it waved it at him in an attempt to shake hands and then paused in worry ,had he hurt it by accident? Tain rolled his eyes and then looked the boy over, as a rule he really didn't like male humans but for some reason this one felt different to him and he felt like he could trust him right away, it was an odd feeling for him. Shadow was the only member of the team watching her trainer, she and nix were so alike that many people had said they seemed to be the same creature, just split in two. So as she saw nixs bright green eyes scan the page and widen and her lips press together and her fingers tighten slightly on the paper she gave a small mew and raised a paw and pressed it against nixs knee to attempt to comfort her, of course the boys hadn't even noticed this yet

[Oliver Stride]

"Oh," Oliver said, at a loss of anything else to say. He didn't know what it was like for families who didn't get along. He'd always had it pretty good. His parents, to say the least, had been normal. They seemed to be happy with what they had; each other, and a house on the coast. They didn't fight very often, and whenever they did, they would cry and apologize after and then things would be fine again. The two of them took care of each other, and Oliver took care of himself.
"Oh, nah. I'm from Hoenn, actually, but I won this guy in a contest here." he explained with a smile. He wasn't lucky very often, so whenever he did win something, he felt the need to be proud. The Phanpy looked up and trumpeted before turning its attention back to the Ralts. He hadn't even felt the poke, so he began to walk circles around the Ralts.
"Yeah I like him a lot, actually. I'm pretty excited for when he evolves. Donphans are pretty sweet. A friend of mine back home used to have one," he said happily, losing track of what he was trying to say. He put his hands on his hips and looked down at Harrison, who was beginning to get dizzy.
Oliver looked back up at Nix when she didn't reply to what he'd said; she was still looking down at the letter. He tilted his head to try to see her face, and finally noticed her expression.
"You alright? "

[Nix Night]

Nix bit down on her lip and her fingers began to shake, her hair fell over her face and hid her eyes from view as they began to water and shadow gave a concerned mew. Biting down harder on her lip, she screwed the letter up in her hands before simply flexing her fingers and letting it drop before reaching her hands down to her belt. She let out a small sob before shaking her head and then shifting both hands to her belt and ran her fingers over the pouches there. Her fingers brushed the potions pouch and she felt her supplies knock against her and then the same over her pokeballs pouch, she tried to smil to herself as her fingers came over each of her pokemons personalised balls but no smile came. Tains had a simple T with long vines and leaves branching off it ,and phantoms had only basic tent on it with a P in it's centre and three crosses round the letter. She hand stopped over shadows and she plucked it from her belt as shadow herself looked up at nix with a worried look and twitched her ears as she watched nixs face drop. Shadow's ball had a ball of flames cut in to its surface with a S in it's centre, it was nix's favourite ball of all the ones she had carved.

Twitching the ball in her fingers she dropped it before taking phantoms and tains from their places on her belt and then holding then up and with out a word she called them back as the tears in her eyes over-flowed and poured down her face and she dropped forwards to her knees and wrapped her arms around shadows neck, dropping tain and phantoms balls as she did so and letting out another sob before breaking down in tears.

Oliver watched Nix's expression slowly grow worse and worse, and as her hair hid her face from him, he took a step forwards, worried. She had turned quiet far too quickly. He opened his mouth to say something, but he was cut short as she crumpled up the letter and let it fall onto the path. Unsure of what to do, he watched awkwardly as she fumbled for her pokeballs and recalled the Ralts and Deerling. When she dropped herself onto the ground and began sobbing, Oliver blinked in surprise.
That must have been one letter.
These were always horrible situations for Oliver. He was good at listening to people, but it was a rare occasion when one of his friends simply broke down into tears. At least then he generally knew how to help, depending on the person; this girl was a stranger. He didn't know what had happened or who she was, but it was enough to make her collapse in front of him. After all, Oliver was a stranger, too.
Harrison was taken aback as the Ralts disappeared, and the Phanpy stopped, edging backwards as Nix took the Umbreon into her arms. Oliver took in a breath, and Harrison cast him a worried look. Oliver looked back at him and frowned. He felt an impulse to say sorry, but knew that there was no reason to and it wouldn't help anything, anyway.
Not knowing what else there was to do, he stepped forwards. He sat down next to Nix, crossing his legs. Harrison followed, and sat patiently next to Oliver. The two of them would wait.

Nix could feel eyes on her but she didn't care right now, her heart actually felt like it was going to drop out of her chest and her face was warm with tears as she heard shadow mew under her and she lifted her gaze just a little to look at her. Shadows eyes were concerned for her trainer because she knew she was never like this, she would hold her emotions back and hide them because of her childhood but this was new to both of them and shadow was worried. "breeee?" she asked in a soft mew and nix gave a sniff before looking at shadows bright red eyes ,"pixa's gone" she said simply and softly before sobbing again

Shadows ears twitched at her trainers comment before she felt nix wrap her arms around her again and she sat down so she could rest her head on the girls shoulder and she mewed softly again. Nix had always been hated by her family for looking and thinking and acting differently to them and how they were expected to be, she had been with red hair as opposed to the black and blonde hair the rest of he family had. She had always wanted to be a trainer where as they were all breeders and she treated pokemon like family or friends where as her own family treated them as little more than pets.

Shadow had met them all only once and she was not keen to do it again but she had met pixa many times, when the 4 month old nix had made her mother hate her too much to touch her the family hired a nanny. Pixa Wolfe. She pretty much raised on her own and let her learn about pokemon and training secretly and treated nix as her own Daughter ,no wonder nix was so upset now.
