Gym's?

This is more of a suggestion than a Q&A but, I think it would be cool if players were allowed to challenge gym leaders. I was thinking you could have players sign up to challenge gym leaders on a first come first serve basis. Then the mods could rp as the gym leaders and players could start to earn badges. Once a certain amount of members obtain a certain amount of badges perhaps there can be a special league they can be allowed to enter to compete for cool prizes and such.

I'd say its a really good idea and I for one would love to battle like that, my only concern is the stress on the mod team. They have lots to do at the moment and all but if it was like a monthly thing or something ,(so they didn't have to worry about it all the time?, then I think it could be excellent

I wonder why I always end up worrying about the moddies....it's odd...but I guess they all just so cool that we all love and care about them

Personally, I think it would be interesting to wait until the characters are of higher levels, and then potentially have the trainers themselves set up gyms or something? It would probably be quite a ways off before that would happen though, if it even did.

As for gyms themselves, I believe the reason we don't have them is because this is supposed to be more about the interactions between characters, rather than players simply battling the mods over and over, but I can't really say for sure. I'm also rambling, so feel free to ignore most of my babble. |D

I think kai's idea could work! If we wait until we have MEMBERS who have a fair bit of cash and don't want to spend it or have eggs they want to sell but really want to battled and such like then they could set up a gym thread and have maybe one challenger every other week. This person would have to be picked from a sign up sheet but it would have to be randomised some how, maybe a dice code or what ever the mods use to randomise could be used to pick the challenger.

I mean I know I'll hit that point with nix at some time soon as she and Lyu both only want 6 pokemon each so...they wont be buying more and maybe this could be a good way to have more site fun and it gives people "gyms" to fight and things to do for when people don't want to catch any more pokemon.

So that gives us gyms, more training, and trainer/member interaction and the mods don't need to worry about it besides levels at the ends of gym threads!

There may be a couple issues with gyms, but I can see ways to work around them. First of all, pokémon characters are used as face claims here (and not as canons) so having the official Unova league would perhaps not be a good idea. Along with it being much more work for the staff...

Although, I like the idea of members being the gym leaders; but I think for just battling isn't the best idea. Instead I suggest that a member can make a gym leader application and an admin can decide if their new character is worthy of being a gym leader. It would have to be extremely hard to be accepted as one and I believe it should be used as more of a roleplay purpose. It would be nice to have characters bump into a local gym leader on their threads (not even to battle, but to socialize).

When it does come to battling In a gym, I think they should have a set list of pokémon they use only for their gym and they obtain party pokémon the same way anyone else would, like a normal character. Winning against a gym leader can result in a reward (that is up to the member who plays the gym leader) but it must be something their character has. E.g, if it's money, the money will be extracted from their account, and if it's a TM they must buy it. This means everyone won't be wanting a gym leader for it could be a lot of work.

It would be good to have a trail of this and see how it works out, but if it leads to negative points, it should be stopped. Anyway, I'm getting carried away with everything. No one get your hopes up because it may be a big no-no~

I think that does make a lot more sense and I can see people doing that and agreeing with it. I personally liked my idea of it being every day trainers getting powerful and setting up their own gyms but maybe we can set something like that up separately. But I like the idea of gym leaders being normal people who socialise as well as battle.

Can I submit my idea of normal trainers setting up battle challenges similar to gyms ,as a sort of trainers group? I used on a site where members could do a similar sort of thing, they would be like gym leaders in the way people challenged them to win prizes but it was all for eggs/cash/TM's instead of badges. We called them challenge battlers and they were normal accounts who just had too many pokemon or eggs or too much money and Wanted to battle anyway so they set these challenge battles up.

So I think I may suggest that, unless you think it's a dumb idea and should be shot down now....

I can understand that having gym's in an rp would be a big stressor, whether its for the mods or members. It would be a constant thing, catering to each individual player once every so often. As much as it would be awesome to emulate the show as much as possible, I understand it has to be something realistic.

Thus, I find Nix's proposal of this "Trainers Group" the most practical. I've only been apart of this site for a couple of weeks or so and already I've obtained 5 pokemon between one wild thread and IC games. So it is safe to assume that within the first month or so of a players experience here they will have not only an abundance of pokemon but also perhaps a bit more money than they will actually need, seeing as how you get 100 for each post you make in and out of rp.

With that said, it is easy to see how players will eventually end up with pokemon, eggs, money and various other items they might need or want. So as a good way to sort of "spread the wealth", if you will, I think is to go with this challenge battlers idea. So like if a player gets to the point where they have more pokemon and items then they know what to do with, they can sign up to be a part of this trainers league. This would give them the permission to stop and setup a personal event somewhere in the rp at a gym or some form of building that supported pokemon battles.

From there they would be sort of acting as if they were temporary gym leaders, taking on the first player who joined their open thread. This way, people registered to this Trainers League can set up event battles at their leisure, since its their own items and such they are giving away to participant. This would eliminate the stress of a fixated time frame for "gym" battles and also give newer players yet another way to earn pokemon, eggs and other such items.

I always thought that trainer groups would be a separate group from gym leaders but I think the idea of having to sign up to run a challenge battle and then making an open thread is very good but I think we'll need a sort of colosseum place to set up these open battle threads.

Plus you explained my idea and the reasons behind it so much better than I did by the way
