Working up a Combination [Nix]

[XAVIER CHEVALIER]

The sun shone merrily upon the battle grounds set aside for trainer battles just behind the pokemon center. Xavier lay on the ground, watching the clouds as he tried to contain his excitement. The weather was perfect for a friendly spar and the location was perfect. That is, right behind the pokemon center, making it easy to get his pokemon treated if they were to get too roughed up during the match later. Now, all that was left to do was to await the arrival of his battle partner.

He squeezed his eyes shut as a particularly strong breeze blew, sending a bit of dirt into his eyes. Rubbing hard and blinking a little solved that problem. Sighing, he sat up and removed his egg case from his pack. Carefully, he lifted the transparent cover and stroked the orange orb gently. It wouldn't be long now, he hoped, before Charmander officially joined the ranks of his team. The teen had always loved fire pokemon; the Kanto starter in particular. Had it been under any circumstances, he supposed he would have started out with a fire pokemon. Heh, Tepig, perhaps, since he was in Unova. Then again, he had nothing against the grass started that he had been given. In fact, he loved her dearly.

Thinking about his fire pokemon's hatching sent the youth into a state of mild euphoria. Hatchings were as special as the evolution of a pokemon, he believed. And he could hardly wait. Running his fingers over the precious cargo, he could feel the warmth radiating from the egg itself. He knew, this was going to be one hell of a Charmander, and that they were going to be the best of friends.

Smiling to himself, the boy replaced the cover and placed the egg and its case back into his back pack. It wouldn't do for it to get damaged during the spar, now would it? Sliding his hands towards the zippers on the side of his backpack, he removed the pokeballs belonging to the partners that he would be battling with in a while: Snivy and Poochyena. Hopefully, they would do well.

[Nix Night]

Nix smiled as she bent over her sleeping bag and rolled it up, behind her bubbles was putting out the fire from the night before and phantom was hopping around and finding more fire wood for their next night in the city. Tain was standing beside him and the pair were building a pile of sticks on his back which made nix grin to herself ,both would be able to evolve soon. Phantom was getting deadly close to his point because she could see the Dawn stone hanging around his neck as he moved around. She had used a special type of candy to get him to evolve early but now she knew he was ready to evolve nearly anytime.

Nix finished rolling her sleeping bag up before she tucked it away in her back pack and she stood up and held out her pokeballs and called all of her team back aside shadow who hated being in her ball ,so nix just let her stay out as she started to walk towards The poke centre. She spotted a flash of White hair and smiled as she did so and raised a hand to wave at her freind before she spotted his pokemon darting back and forth in front of him and nix grinned and then she waved a hand to shadow and broke into a run over towards the battle field

At the arrival of his new friend, Xavier's face lit up with one of his rare smiles. Just as he had promised himself, Xavier had been up since the crack of dawn, scouring route one (which he had become properly acquainted with) for a new pokemon for the battle he would have with Nix. The first half hour had been arduous, with not so much as a hint that there were even wild pokemon in the area. Just as Xavier was about to head back to the pokemon center though, his hard work was rewarded with the appearance of a wild Zigzagoon, and shortly after, a poochyena. For all the comical battles were worth though, Xavier was eventually rewarded with valuable battle experience as well as the capture of the dark-type canine.

He chuckled inwardly when he thought about what Nix had said about male and female pokemon during their trek to Straiton the day before. Ironically, the new pokemon he had captured was a female. Not only that, the rookie had also had the opportunity to procure an egg shortly after returning to the pokemon center with his catch. It had been pure luck, that the breeder in question needed someone to take the Charmander Egg off his hands. Xavier had jumped at the opportunity. He had always wanted one of those. And by pure serendipity, he was told that the hatch-ling would also be a female; meaning to say, that unlike Nix, his party consisted of all female pokemon!

After returning her wave, the rookie reached for his pokeballs. He gave a sharp flick of his wrist just as he activated the capsule, letting go as he enlarged and catching it just as it reached its full size. Holding it out, a blinding flash of light exploded from the capsule, revealing his newly captured poochyena. "Poo~" the small canine yawned and stretched itself against the sun. Fortunately, it hadn't received too much damage during the battle with Snivy that morning. It had taken nearly no time at all for the nurse at the center to get her healed.

With a light toss, Xavier released his starter from her ball. The young grass pokemon burst forth, standing proud, with her eyes closed as the light subsided. Obviously, the two victories this morning had seen a boost in the young thing's confidence.

The trainer knelt and placed a hand on each pokemon. "I'll be counting on you again, Snivy," he said, chortling lightly. "Great job this morning, although I don't want you getting over-confident out there later."

"Sniv~" she replied, sounding slightly indignant.

"And I'll be counting on you as well, Poochyena," he said to the other, ruffling the fur between her ears. The dark-type said nothing, although the wagging of her tail showed that she was pleased with the affection she was receiving.

"Well then, Nix," he said, looking up at the female trainer. "Shall we begin?"

Nix smiled as she came up to her friend and watched him free his pokemon and she couldn't help but grin, "fine by me" she called back to him before dropped her hands to her belt and pulling away two of her own pokeballs. She looked at them for a moment to check she had the right ones and a gleam of a lightning bolt and ball of flames cut in to the surface of each one told her she was right so she flicked her wrists and there was another flash of red light.

A moment later nix hoped up to grab the balls and tuck them back on her belt as her quilava and luxray stretched themselves out and then they looked back at her ,"no, bubbles can't battle because its only a double" she said in answer to their unspoken questions and bolt flicked his tail in minor annoyance but he turned back to the other team and broke in to a smile. Blaze on the other hand just closed his eyes for a moment and then his fur rippled before flames shot out on his back and head and nix grinned and nodded to herself as faced his opponents. "you go first, I've been doing this longer than you" she called over to her friend with a smile as shadow mewed the same message to him from beside her

He was... just a little surprised when she sent out two pokemon at once. Two evolved pokemon, no least. Xavier's intention of calling out both his own was firstly to show Nix the new Poochyena he'd caught that morning. That, and he'd wanted his new partner to observe Snivy's battle with Nix. Not that he minded the interesting turn of events. After all, the pokemon center was just a short walk away should things turn out for the worse.

Brushing aside his fringe, he decided to take on Nix's challenge with a grin. "Yosh," he returned. "Snivy, Poochyena, stand by for battle," he called out. As the two female pokemon stepped into the battlefield, the rookie trainer could not help but feel the rush that he'd experienced that morning while battling wild pokemon. This would be his first trainer battle, and it would be his first attempt at a double battle. Even so, he'd seen plenty of those on TV to know what they were about.

"Snivy, Poochyena, double tackle attack," he called. At their trainer's command, both pokemon lunged forward, with the grass pokemon headed for the Luxray and the dark-type hopping into a sprint with its head lowered toward Nix's fire-type. The battle had begun!

Nix watched her friend begin the battle and string both of his female pokemon to come running at her boys using tackle and she smiled and then looked forwards to her boys ,"bolt, use your tail to deflect the attacks buddy and then wait for me to tell you when to attack" she called out and bolt gave a small cry and then ran forwards. He lowered his head as the two smaller pokemon ran up at him and he closed his eyes before swinging himself round and sending his long tail out behind him, blaze had his eyes closed too as nix whispered something in a low voice down to him.

Blot winced in pain as the two moves hit his side but both the smaller pokemon couldn't help but be knocked away from him ,"bolt, use thunderbolt!" nix called out as blaze curled up and rolled to one side and uncurled at bolts side and snapped his bright eyes open. Blaze opened his mouth and a flurry of flames shot out at the snivy as bolt lowered his head and a bolt of yellow lightning shot forwards towards the little grey puppy pokemon.

Xavier's eyes widened in horror as his pokemon's moves were deflected (very easily, he might add) by Nix's Luxray. Even after that, the combination of attacks that followed up the deflection were executed flawlessly. Fists balled tight, there was no question that there was a huge gap as far as skills went between two trainers. Before his mind could fully process the situation, his lips moved. "Snivy, bring up the dirt with twister, followed up by glare. Poochyena, follow up with another tackle."

The young grass pokemon had been rigid with fear as the whirl of flames approached. It was just slightly more than she had expected, to be confronted by her number one weakness so early in the battle. But at the sound of her trainer's voice, the grass snake reacted immediately. Shaking off her fear, the young Snivy lifted her hands. Winds whipped around her tiny form, picking up the loosed earth on the battlefield as it formed a tight vortex, deflecting the flames.

Before the winds had subsided, the grass snake had broken out of the vortex and took off at a run towards her attacker. When she judged the distance to be sufficient, she put on her most intimidating expression and looked straight into the Quilava's eyes.

Her partner, however, had not been as fortunate. Caught in the bolts of the Luxray's Thunderbolt, the puppy stiffened from the shock and fell to the ground writhing. Struggling to its feet, sparks of electricity ran off her fur as she took off, darting in zigzag fashion towards the much bigger Luxray. Just as she was about to connect with the lightining pokemon though, the nimble pup shot towards the flame pokemon, having Snivy initiate a glare attack from the corner of her eye. Maybe her tackle would be more effective against the smaller and distracted fire pokemon?

Nix had been a little disappointed by blazes move missing but bolt had hit his target so she soon shook her head and got on with working a new tactic out, before she even had time to think though, bolt started running forwards in blazes direction. Nix watched the large electric type begin to glow a faint yellow as he ran and then he winced as he bumped blaze aside and took both the moves from the other team himself, the little puppy slammed in to his side as electricity ran over his fur and he winced at the glare he was given but nix knew what he had done, charge.

Blaze stood up from where he had been knocked to one side and shook himself as nix curled her hands in to tight fists at her side ,"bolt, use leer blaze use smoke screen" she called out and she watched bolt lower his head and leer in snivys direction as blaze lowered his head and started making a black smoke appear from his mouth ,"loop!" nix called out as the smoke grew darker and blaze ran forwards and started looping round and round the other pokemon
